Kevin Griffin: Press

"Boston's Kevin Griffin says he wants to write songs like Paul Simon, sing like Marvin Gaye, and be cool like Johnny Cash. Now that's a tall order. But he should have added Bob Dylan and Willie Nile because that's who he sounds like on his debut CD, "Red Skies," with his nasally affective voice and folk-blues guitar style. The title track is a real keeper, and "Go On" has a neat line about old folks telling long-winded stories to the young folks: "Go on, tell it to the grandkids/PG versions they won't forget."
The Boston Globe
"Charming, handsome, funny, intelligent, talented . . . these are some of the qualities that come to mind when we think of the ideal folk/blues performer. Coincidentally, Kevin Griffin — singer-songwriter, guitarist, and our good friend — performs tonight as part of his new month-long residency at the Lizard Lounge (1667 Mass Ave, Cambridge). He’ll be belting out tunes from his CD, Red Skies, out on Tricycle Music. With any luck, he’ll also do one of his world-famous Scottish-brogue imitations. That one slays the crowd every time! Plus, Kevin is a very charming, handsome, funny, intelligent, and talented folk/blues performer. The show starts around 9."

"Listened the other day. Good record. Liked the first song best.
A good driving tune!"
Bill Abbate - WBOS Radio Boston
"Folk singers with acoustic guitars are a dime a dozen on every street in every neighborhood in every city in America. But some stand out much more than others. Take the breath of fresh folk-air that is Kevin Griffin, straight outta Boston. Initial listens invoke a bit of Dylan, a little Dave Matthews, and (thankfully) a whole lot of Griffin's rich guitar strums and wizened vocals. The title track shines, and the gorgeous "Annie Please" (the plea of a man accused of murder) is as soul-searching as any song you'll hear."

THEIR REVIEW:
"We hebben geluisterd en horen een singer-songwriter die zijn rootsy nummers begeleidt op 'n akoestische gitaar in een folk-blues stijl en soms met mondharmonica. Ik ben benieuwd naar zijn live-performance. Misschien iets
voor het Folksurvival-circuit van Ad van Meurs. Ik zie Kevin al staan op maandagvond in De Buut aan de St. Rochusstraat in Eindhoven."

THE TRANSLATION:
"We have listened and hear singer-songwriter those be rootsy numbers accompany on an acoustic jet ear in a folk-bluesfolk-blues folk-blues style and sometimes with harmonica. I have been aroused curiosity to its live-performance.
Perhaps something for the folksurvival circuit of ad of Meurs. I see Kevin standing already on maandagvond in the Buut to the St. Rochusstraat in end courts."

So there you have it. Kev has “aroused curiosity” in the Netherlands. He’s very happy about that. He’s less happy about “standing already in the Buut” however. As a matter of fact we can guarantee he won’t be “standing already in the Buut” any time soon.
